Hi, I have a honda civic 2006 4cylinders, 1.8liters engine, and it's a 2wd. Do you think i can go from sacramento to lake tahoe during this time with the car above? Well, i think i will have to bring a chain too. Anyway, let me know if the car is ok Thanks

The car will make it just fine. Just be sure to carry the proper sized chains, and make sure you know how to put them on, that means to practice before you go. Otherwise plan on paying around $30.00 for someone to do it for you. Drive carefully.

You will be just fine in that car. By law, you must carry chains... for that car probably cable chains - check your owners manual. You only need to put them on if CHP has a checkpoint setup. They keep the roads pretty clear when it's not actively storming. Practice putting chains on or figure on paying someone $30 to do it for you. My advice to you: * take it easy when you drive through shadows or after dark, there is black ice on the road. * leave your windshield wipers up when you park or they may freeze to the window. * avoid parking on hills and do not use your emergency brake, it can freeze on. * keep a window scraper with you If you are driving with chains on: * 25mph no matter how hard the jerk in a hopped up SUV is tailgating you. * Don't start in "drive" or 1st gear. Force it into 2nd. 1st gear has too much torque for chains. For current road conditions and chain requirements call: 1-800.427.7623

As long as you have the chains and are careful, you should be fine. But if you don't mind me saying, I think SUV's are better because when driving in winter conditions, the trip can sometimes be unexpectedly longer than you might anticipate as traffic can accumulate when the weather changes and speed limits must be drastically reduced for safety. So on that note, your passengers may not be very comfortablt in your car. More importantly, an SUV really gives the driver a bigger benefit as you can see much more of the road a lot better. I've driven a Civic like yours before and while I think it's a great everyday car, it's not the most comfortable for traveling. That's just my opinion. I hope you have a fun and safe trip.
